Zoe Hersey’s work explores the ambulatory essence of nature and is never stagnant or of a singular view. Instead she paints and experiences life as a process that is ever-changing. This constant dynamism is reflected in her forms which drift on the surface of her paintings. Branches, leaves, flowers and other botanical images move across the canvas in a manner that feels simultaneously restful and active. Hersey creates her minimalist landscape backgrounds through layering colors that contribute to the romantic quality of her work. She balances this by evoking a strong introspective response from the viewer largely through the transparency of the palette, and the glossy finish, both echoing the way light actually moves through space.
