Aptly titled “The Story Of…”, Tyson Grumm’s new exhibition of 28 paintings focuses on visual storytelling. For Grumm there is magic in making a visual story. A story with no words and no sound told in the one language that every person at any age can understand: pictures.
Throughout his career and practice, Grumm has told thousands of made-up stories and there are thousands more that he has yet to tell. He spends his days living inside his head, seeing fragments of what could later become a chapter in his story. These stories, when shared with others and viewed from a different lens, seemingly mutate and become the viewer’s story. This shared experience of swapping stories is an alchemy that Grumm relishes.
