Kathy Jones

Influenced by her surroundings in California and the Bay Area Figurative painters, Jones creates a dialogue between her use of color, her application of paint, and her subjects. The figures in her paintings have a quiet and hypnotic presence, while the palette and texture of her works pulsate and buzz with energy. Jones’ mostly female figures are often depicted in transition or moving from one place to another. Driven by experimenting with the push and pull of rich colors across the canvas, creating mood and mysterious narratives, Jones positions her work at the interstice, the silence, solitude, space, and shadow between two moments.

She was educated at Stanford University, where she studied drawing and printmaking. After graduation, she spent time in Cairo, Egypt teaching art and science.
