In her latest body of work, Siems continues her exploration of the inner child through figures that seem both vulnerable and self-assured. This exhibition considers the fundamental need to be seen, heard, safe and validated in order to create true and necessary community. Siems’ paintings are also concerned with a world where we are facing major advances in technology without guard rails or regulations in place. By situating her subjects in contemporary times, concepts of surveillance and algorithmic control inevitably creep into notions of visibility and recognition. Where life’s dualities are constant, art holds space for it all, gives it voice and channels it into an enduring form of power.
