The paintings of Leslie Wu are gleaned from memory, experience, and observation –childhood camping trips, visits to Northwest coastlines, kayaking through quiet, still waters, cold dips in glacial lakes. Wu’s paintings are a visual autobiography that the viewer is called into through the calmness and serenity of nature. The subtlety in her work reflects her interest in the 19th century landscape paintings of the Luminists who focused on the effects of light and atmosphere. Each place she paints has a unique cadence and personality, a sacred presence that can be visited again and again.
